Most of the time when I am walking through the University , I am walking in my own zone, thinking about my notes , making sure I walk between tiles , my time table and so many other things . Then suddenly some girl just calls out my name , I don’t remember her name but I know the familiar small talk we are going to have . First: Exclamatory hi! . Second: How is it going/ internship question/ wow you are about to graduate questions . Then it’s time to say goodbye and then we both say “Take Care” . These three questions are programmed in my subconscious mind , just to prove myself a human . After the goodbye I am confused for a moment giving a name to the individual I just met . Small talk is not the issue , the thing is we are saying words not knowing their meanings . Even knowing the meaning we are using them recklessly rendering them without meaning progressively .
You told me to “take care” , maybe I will maybe I will not . I don’t know that you care for me , but your “take care” just evaporated , you committed the crime of liberating the word from it’s meaning . After realising how a small group of true friends is the only thing I need , acting social seems a burden sometimes . There is no harm in smiling and small talk but using words that touch a soul is important .
When I am with my friends I never say “take care” because I know , I will definitely take care of them . “Take Care” sounds so selfish , sounds like you do your thing , take care , do whatever , I am not even looking . I will use take care only after I have chatted with a close friend after a long time and I will be there to inquire about them next time when we talk. It may not be selfish but a product of our busy lives , just trying to say something polite . What is your take?
In the end I feel find someone who says I will take care of you and just embed them in your lives!
I’m usually say to someone God Bless you or have a good one. I don’t use “take care” but I hear it a lot. Thought provoking though because I never thought of it as selfish, but reading your blog, yeah it kind of does just put it off on the person you are throwing “take care” onto. Great post, makes you think. God Bless you 🙂

I do use the words Take Care, but I use them to show my empathy for other souls. With this I mean, take good care of yourself, don’t expect others can do this better than you.
I say this, because I like people, otherwise I would never say so.

Yeah but it seems so rapid sometimes . I agree with how you use it . I just wish conversations were a bit more intimate like old times . 🙂

would use take care…dont rely on others…in case if unable to…then we are up to take care

Yeah not waiting for others to tell you what you are worthy of . 🙂

Does it not depend on how it is said and in what context? I rarely use it, but when I do, it is always in context to someone going through some tough times and I want to acknowledge that and wish them well. take care 🙂

Yes soul gifts context matters , it’seems meaning less when you don’t know what a person is going through.

I agree, but I guess for some it’s like a different kind of farewell. Language is a living thing and changes over time as new words and sayings evolve.

I’d never really thought about why that reflexive phrase bothered me until reading your post. It’s true: the words are like a curt command–I’m on my way and you’re on your own. It’s possible to infuse them with real feeling, I suppose, to really express a wish that the person on the other end will care for himself/herself better (I may even have been on the receiving end of a few well-meant “take cares,” whgen obviously not taking care of myself). But how much better it would be, even in the condition of obvious distress, to hear any version of something like, “Are you okay?” or, if one is obviously not okay, “Can I do something to help?”

Exactly Stephanie , How are you? is also so often used even when we don’t mean it . 😀 Thanks for sharing your opinion .

I usually say … How ya doing? Then wait for the other to respond and end by saying … Have a good day! This is usually in passing when I’m hiking. I always try to get the other person’s eye contact making sure we have friendly company or if not I know how to clearly say with my eyes … I’m tough so don’t bother me. I am a woman walking alone in some pretty remote areas. Ninety nine percent of folks are nice as we exchange genuine radiating smiles. 💖

hahaha isn’t someone asking you to take care of yourself taking care of you? Sometimes having someone who cares enough to ask you of take care of you when they are not around, is enough. Because having someone who cares at all is a privilege denied to many.

You know, Suzanne, there are many things I’d like to accomplish this year that I won’t even voice for fear I’ll fail … again! Funny thing is I’ve heard or read the word intention three times this morning, so I think I need to embrace the concept. Live each day with intention. Think of all the time I won’t waste! Grab your dreams and dash confidently into the new year.

It’s funny how we all view things from such different perspectives. When I say, “take care” to anyone family, friend or casual acquaintance, I mean it more as a reminder to look both ways before crossing the street/be aware of your surroundings sense. I only say “have a great day” to people I like:)

It’s a matter of perspectives as you say , even I use Take Care . It is just about what type of relationship you are having with a person , we give the same word different meanings .

True and good relationships with people should always be about caring for each other. To say “take care” may as well have the addendum “because I won’t be caring for you”. I don’t use the phrase for that reason. My small circle of friends and family will be cared for by me for as long as I live.

So yes I am preparing but for others as well 😀 . Khushi badi jaldi ho jaate ho tum.

Umm, I heard that jnu provides some entrance exam guidance classes or something like that…… I’ve been told this, but I doubt the accuracy of the info…….
Also I dont know what book I should read for modern history……
Han wo kya hai na, abhi bhi thoda bachpana hai, toh hamesha excited hi rehta hun

I study in another university and I have heard this from your side . Well as far as my uni is concerned we are not provided much info , and we tend to miss deadlines . So I seriously doubt this word of providing entrance exam classes . It may be for administrative services exams I guess because my uni holds those.
